I shot the bird , I shot the Bird!

Well, I shot him with my Olympus C-700..... In the link I gave earlier to the Backyard Birds site , they described the Koel as being shy of appearing in public. Well of course that would be right, they make such a racket, if they were seen, they might be shot at! Three thirty in the morning, this one, or it's progeny, has been calling in the park up the street. But this afternoon I heard it right outside the back door. It seemed to be posing for it's photo to be taken, preening its' glossy black wings and staring me out with the beady red eye!
Anyway daylight saving begins tonight so it will be 4.30 instead. Although I have heard them calling all night long. At least the planes have a curfew.

Hilarious!

Don't have them in Tas but you should hear the yellow wattlebird - known as "vomit bird" and the native hen which sounds like a saw, at all hours. (Both are endemic). The mopoke is much more euphonious.

How about demented birds pecking on shiny windows at dawn - a kookaburra sounds like a sledgehammer.
